Visit of the Secretary General of the Arab Economic Unity Council

On the sidelines of the “Small & Medium Enterprises : The Road Towards Economic Growth” Forum organized by the Arab Banks Union, the Secretary General of the Arab Economic Unity Council / Arab League, HE Ambassador Muhammad Muhammad Al-Rabie visited IBC on Thursday August 27th 2016 and was received by IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi and IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji. During this meeting the Ambassador reviewed the state of the Arab economy and joint Arab projects emanated from the Arab Economic Unity Council, and also reviewed, within the joint Arab projects, the idea of establishing a tourist Arab company that include the public and private sectors from all Arab States.

For his part, Dr. Majid Saedi spoke of IBC’s role in supporting the private sector through the establishment of an advisory board from the private sector that offers ideas and suggestions to the Iraqi government.

The Ambassador expressed his full support to establish such council and the readiness of the Arab Economic Unity Council to participate in any conference organized by IBC in this context.

 

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

 

The Visiting International Monetary Fund Delegation Discusses with IBC

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation visiting Jordan headed by the President of IMF Mission for Iraq Mr. Christian Jose discussed with IBC delegation on Thursday August 25th 2016 at Amman Intercontinental Hotel during a significant symposium held by IMF the first and second reviews of IMF experts report on various political and economic developments in Iraq, on which the arrangement concluded with IMF is based, in the framework of the Credit Standby Agreement.
On IBC side, the meeting was attended by IBC Vice President and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, IBC Board members; Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi, Mr. Fakhri Rishan and Mrs. Wasan Al-Khafaji, and IBC members; Mr. Faris Kamal, Mr. Hassan Al-Dahhan, Mr. Dhargham Al-Jarrah, Mr. Faisal Majid, the representative of Baghdad Gas Units Company Mrs. Basma Mumtaz Al-Taie, Baghdad Gas Units Company Projects Manager Mrs. Raja Al-Kabariti and ABB representative Mr. Alaa Amr, in addition to IBC CEO.

During the meeting IMF Mission Chairman elaborated on the agreement concluded with the Iraqi authorities on the financial and economic reforms proposed by the Iraqi Government whose reforms continue to advance under the program monitored by IMF experts, noting that the Iraqi authorities has achieved progress with IMF experts to reach an understanding on a program for the economic and financial policies pointing out that three out of the five guidance targets have been achieved.

He also referred to the approval of IMF Executive Board on the Standby Agreement with Iraq of approximately (5.34) billion US Dollars to support the Government program for economic reform.

On the other hand, Iraq had secured in July 2015 a payment of about (1.24) billion Us Dollars at the time of approval (through the rapid funding tool).

The economic reform program, supported by the Credit Standby Agreement, aims at meeting the needs of the urgent balance of payments, make spending reach a level consistent with the decline of international oil prices and ensure that debt margin remains within tolerance limits.

The program also includes certain measures to protect the poor, strengthen financial management, support the financial sector stability, control corruption and start with restructuring the State-owned banks that control the banking system.

IBC Diamond Sponsorship “Tamayouz Award” for Architectural Excellence For Graduation Projects of Architecture Colleges Students in Iraqi Universities for 2015

Based on IBC’s vision and aspiration to support scientific competencies and talents, and its belief in the need to encourage and motivate such competencies for further creativity, IBC, and for the fourth year respectively, took part in the Diamond Sponsorship of “Tamayouz Award” for Architectural Excellence for graduation projects of students in Architecture Departments in the Iraqi Universities for 2015.

It is worth mentioning that “Tamayouz Award” was founded with unadulterated Iraqi efforts with the aim of supporting young Iraqi architects and introducing the exerted academic efforts to the world.

IBC granted a scholarship to student Waad Issam Al-Derzi, a first winner of Tamayouz Award of the Architecture Universities Category, to obtain a Masters Degree in Architecture from London South Bank University in the United Kingdom.
Moreover, IBC sponsored Tamayouz Award for Women for Excellence in Architecture and Construction for 2015.

Tamayouz Award aims at honoring excellence and creativity and sheds the light on the young Iraqi architects, in addition to introducing the creativity of Iraqi students to the global society of architecture.

“Tamayouz Award” was founded in 2012 as the first award in Iraq for excellence in architecture design.

The first annual award was based on one category only which was the excellence award for academic designs of architecture graduation projects in the Iraqi Universities.

“Tamayouz” Initiative aims at supporting the efforts of academics in Iraqi Universities, acknowledging talents and rewarding excellence in professions relating to arts and architecture.
The Global Pact in Iraq succeeded in presenting this initiative to the Iraqi companies specialized in building and architecture.

Three member Organizations in the Global Pact network sponsored this initiative amongst which was IBC in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Presently, “Tamayouz Award” has become the only initiative that connects the international organizations, local companies and the students to encourage and promote the awareness of design excellence and boost the wheel of architecture in a country that currently suffers from urban and architectural distortion.

At the beginning of 2015 the Iraqi architecture icon Dr. Rifat Chaderchi was granted the Honorary Doctorate Degree by the British Coventry University upon the nomination of Tamayouz Award for Iraqi Architecture and the Department of Architecture in the University on the significance of his architectural and intellectual achievements that enriched the Iraqi and Arab architecture.

The Doctorate Degree granting ceremony was attended by Dr. Chaderchi’s wife, Mrs. Belqis Sharara, his brother, Mr. Yaqdhan Chaderchi, Omran Yaqdhan Chaderchi, Coventry University architecture professor and founder of Tamayouz Award architect Prof. Ahmed Salah Al-Mallak, the Iraqi students studying in the University and a large crowd of Dr. Chaderchi’s friends and fans.
The Honorary Doctorate Degree in Arts was handed to the Iraqi architect, academic and theoretician Dr. Rifat Chaderchi by the Head of Coventry University during the students’ graduation ceremony held in the Cathedral of Coventry City.

The Jordanian Minister of Culture Dr. Adel Al-Tuweisi Opens the 1st Personal Exhibition of Iraqi Artist Kifah Al Shebib

Among the activities of IBC Cultural Program (Ibdaa), The Jordanian Minister of Culture Dr. Adel Al-Tuweisi opened on Tuesday August 6th 2016 on IBC Hall / 1st Floor the first personal exhibition of Iraqi artist Kifah Al Shebib “A Tune in Memory”.

During the opening ceremony the Jordanian Culture Minister toured the exhibition with IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, Vice Chairman Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi and a number of Board members accompanied by the Iraqi artist Kifah Al Shebib to see the art works in display.

The exhibition included 29 oil paintings on canvas executed during the past four years depicting life in general in Iraq during the sixties and seventies of the past century.

The exhibited paintings contained what the memory still retains of the beauty of Iraq and carried a soothing hope for peace and love.

The artist added that the basic material of the exhibition was based on reliable sources of past events, in addition to the personal memory that still retains lots of events in store.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Jordanian Culture Minister and a number of the Jordanian Culture Ministry officials, a crowd of litterateurs, writers, artists, journalists, Iraqi community and Satellite TV channels.
