Economic Event: IBC Sponsors & Participates in the “Jordanian – Korean Trade Partnerships Forum”

IBC took part in the “Jordanian – Korean Trade Partnerships Forum” which was held and sponsored by IBC on Tuesday April 30th 2, 2019 at Amman Intercontinental Hotel with the presence of the Korean Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Lee Bom-Yon, Vice President of Korea Trade – Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Mr. Kim Sang Mok, a group of Jordanian Businessmen interested in the Korean industries and products and a distinguished participation of IBC members.

In the Forum, a (Booth) was allocated to IBC to display IBC publications and promotional materials and meetings were held with the Korean and Jordanian companies.

Among other activities of the Forum, and in a meeting held with the Deputy President of Korea Trade – Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Mr. Kim Sang Mok, IBC CEO reviewed IBC economic, humanitarian and academic activities, the distinguished services rendered by IBC to Iraqi investors and businessmen, in addition to the volume of Iraqi investment in Jordan in all sectors.

For his part, Mr. Kim Sang Mok lauded the Cooperation Agreement concluded between IBC and the Korean Embassy Trade Consulate (Korea Trade – Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA)), and expressed his desire to organize a joint delegation comprising of Korean business men to visit Iraq.

The visiting delegation consisted of representatives of Korean companies representing the following sectors; water purification and cooling, water treatment plants and systems, rubber parts, metal pipes and fittings, containers and prefabricated houses, integrated environmental solutions, air pollution prevention systems, excavators, cranes and equipments, industrial scales and point of scale (POS) systems, food preparation systems and packaging, industrial heaters, condensers and heat exchangers, pouring pipes and tubes for power plants, chemical plants and refineries, medical and surgical needles, medical cameras and endoscopes, muscle pain relief and relaxation systems, knee and foot protectors, medical sterilizers and healthy animal feed.

Business and investment opportunities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan were reviewed, also ways of developing and enhancing the level of cooperation to promote and improve the joint economic relations between Jordan and Korea and several Memoranda of Understanding were concluded between the Korean companies and their Jordanian counterparts; a Memoranda of Understanding concluded between (Leading Eng. & Ind.) and (Michigan Technology), (Green Light of Jordan) and (Lotus ACT Inc. of Korea), in addition to the MOU concluded between the Jordanian (Noor Eng.) and the Korean (BHI Co. Ltd.).

Iraqi Business Council Hosts the Signing Ceremony of Novel Entitled “Dancing on the Embers of Memory”

As part of the activities of IBC Cultural Program (Ibdaa), IBC hosted on Wednesday April 24th, 2019 the signing ceremony of a Novel entitled “Dancing on the Embers of Memory” by Iraqi Journalist Aseel Sami Abdul Hameed.

At the beginning of the ceremony, verses from the Holy Koran (Al Fatiha Sura) was recited to commemorate the late celebrated popular poet Khideir Hadi.  Poet Mamoun Al-Nattah presented a brief review on writer Aseel Sami, who in turn talked about her first published Novel “Dancing on the Embers of Memory”, in which she tried to convey the image and feelings of a migrant woman lost between her nostalgia to her homeland and the fear of returning to it after having experienced many material and moral manifestations of discrimination, violence and destruction .. a women who tries to adapt to new homelands and surroundings and at the same time clings to her Iraqi identity through her association with an Iraqi man, but failure of her marriage brings her back to the same maze .. the maze of detachment and separation from her homeland and living with its memories.

After this brief presentation, Poet Mamoun Al-Nattah recited poetic verses about the homeland.

At the end of the ceremony, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji presented IBC Icon (the Sumerian Tree of Life) to the Iraqi Journalist Aseel Sami, who in turn expressed her appreciation and gratitude to IBC for supporting and sponsoring Iraqi innovators inside outside Iraq through its (Ibdaa) Cultural Program.

On the Iraqi Embassy side, the ceremony was attended by the Iraqi Embassy First Secretary Mr. Ahmad Al-Khalidi and Mr. Hussam Al-Azzawi from the Iraqi Commercial Consulate.

On IBC side, the ceremony was attended by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, Board member Mrs. Wassan Al-Khafaji, and IBC members; Dr. Amila Naji, Mrs. Haifa Al-Sheikhli, Dr. Ahad Al-Douri, Mr. Faris Kamal, a crowd of Iraqi artists, writers and journalists, in addition to media, IBC CEO and staff.

Economic Event: IBC Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the Korean Embassy Commercial Consulate

A Cooperation Agreement between IBC and the Korean Commercial Consulate (Korea Trade Promotion Corporation – KOTRA) was signed on Monday April 22nd, 2019.

The Agreement was signed by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji on behalf of IBC, while the Korean Embassy Commercial Attaché Mr. Lee Su Jung signed the Agreement on behalf of the Korean side.

During the signing ceremony, Mr. Saad Naji spoke about the importation of the Agreement, stressing that it is a strategic cooperation Agreement that would enhance the economic relations between the Korean and IBC companies, also expressing IBC Board readiness to organize a joint trade delegation comprising of IBC members and their Korean counterparts to visit Iraq and acquaint themselves with the available investment opportunities, emphasizing importance of the participation of the Korean companies in the Iraqi market especially in the energy sector.

On his part, the Korean Commercial Attaché Mr. Lee Su Jong expressed his thanks to IBC for its interest in signing this Agreement, lauding IBC important activities that aim to serve the local and international business community.

The Korean Embassy Commercial Advisor Mr. Ahmad Al-Barqawi praised the close relations existing between IBC and the Korean Commercial Consulate stating that the Agreement would make IBC a key partner in all activities organized by the Korean Commercial Consulate especially conferences and business meetings with the Korean trade delegations visiting Jordan including the forthcoming activities scheduled to take place on Tuesday April 30th, 2019 at the Amman Intercontinental Hotel, in which 27 major Korean companies will participate where IBC will be the organizer and sponsor of these meetings.

Also, a booth will be allocated to IBC to introduce this important institution and its registered companies to the visiting Korean companies representatives.

At the end of the meeting the two sides exchanged thanks, and Mr. Saad Naji, on behalf of IBC, presented the Korean Commercial Attaché Mr. Lee Su Jong with IBC icon (the Sumerian Tree of Life).

On IBC side, the meeting was attended by IBC members; Mr. Mohammad Shanshal, Mrs. Haifa Al-Sheikli, Mr. Mohammad Al-Huseini and IBC CEO, and the Agency’s CEO Mr. Choi Miyong and the Commercial Advisor Mr. Ahmad Al-Barqawi attended the meeting on behalf of the Agency.

Economic Event: IBC Participation in the Jordanian – Cypriot – Greek Business Forum

Upon an invitation extended by the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz, IBC member Mr. Muhammad Shanshal and IBC CEO took part in the activities of the Jordanian – Cypriot – Greek Business Forum held on Sunday April 14th, 2019 at Amman Four Seasons Hotel.

On behalf of IBC, Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz participated in a session entitled “Jordan : A Gateway to Access the Iraqi Market” in the fields of supply, reconstruction and building, during which session, the current reality of relations and future prospects were discussed.

Mr. Al-Faiz talked about the importance of the Iraqi markets and the need for Iraq at the moment to rebuild especially after the elimination of forces of evil and darkness (Daesh), stressing that the security situation in Iraq is much better and called upon the private sector in Jordan, Greece and Cyprus to strengthen the economic relations with the Iraqi private sector.

Mr. Al-Faiz further stressed the depth of the historic bonds and relations between Iraq and Jordan, lauding the support and patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II extended to Iraqi investors and community in Jordan.

He also reviewed the activities of IBC, the volume of Iraqi investments in Jordan, expressing IBC readiness to collaborate with Arab and foreign companies to enter the Iraqi market, calling upon all companies to benefit from the facilities provided by Jordan for exports to Iraq through Aqaba Port.

A number of ministers, officials and businessmen from the three countries participated in the Forum.

Visit of the Sabian Mandaeans Community Members in Jordan to Iraqi Business Council

A delegation of the Sabian Mandaeans Community in Jordan comprising of Community Deputy President Mr. Samieer Saddam Saif and members of the Community Board visited IBC on Monday April 8th, 2019 and were received by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, member of IBC Humanitarian Committee Mrs. Widad Al-Saffar and IBC CEO with the presence of the Iraqi Commercial Attaché Mr. Abdul Amir Aziz Zain and Deputy Attaché Mr. Husam Al-Azzawi and Iraqi artist Dr. Omar Al-Muttalibi. At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Saad Naji welcomed the delegation, and IBC CEO presented a review on IBC achievements and programs on all levels. Mr. Saad Naji discussed with the delegation the humanitarian cases of the Community, noting that the number of Community members present in Jordan is about 300 families; approximately 1500 persons.

Mr. Naji further expressed IBC readiness to assist the special humanitarian cases and assist the Community members, who are desirous to return to Iraq, as part of IBC voluntary return campaign.

Delegation of the Community members toured with artist Dr. Omar Al-Muttalibi his exhibition hosted by IBC to acquaint themselves with the exhibited paintings entitled “A Touch of Color”.

At the end of the meeting the two sides exchanged thanks for organizing the meeting. With regard to the activities organized by the two sides, It was agreed on periodic communications between IBC and the Sabian Mandaeans Community.

 

Opening of the Personal Exhibition of Iraqi Artist Dr. Omar Al-Mutalibi Entitled “A Touch of Color” At The Iraqi Business council Hall

Among the activities of IBC Cultural Program (Ibdaa), the personal exhibition of the Iraqi artist Dr. Omar Al-Mutalibi was opened on Saturday April 6th, 2019 on IBC Hall / 1st floor titled “A Touch of Color”.

During the opening ceremony, and during his tour with IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member Mr. Turkey Al-Qaisi and IBC member Mrs. Tamara Daghistani, the artist reviewed the exhibited paintings that reflected nature, as the artist wanted the exhibition to commemorate the departure of the renowned Iraqi painter Mr. Faiq Hassan, who was an important pillar in shaping the art of painting in Iraq and the Arab world to form a significant world presence.

The exhibition included (27) works depicting the water wheels, marshes, mountains, a number of Iraqi cities and nature at different seasons, using the knife in his paintings. The exhibition is considered an academic attempt to create an academic show in the atmosphere of contemporary Arab art. The ceremony was attended by a number of IBC Cultural Committee members, a crowd of academics, journalists, in addition to satellite TV channels, IBC CEO and staff.

 

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

 

Economic Event: Iraqi Business council Receives the Iraqi and Jordanian Parliamentary Delegations

The Iraqi and Jordanian Parliamentarians accepted a luncheon invitation on Friday April 5th, 2019 at Amman Grand Millennium Hotel hosted by IBC and attended by a crowd of IBC members, representative of the Iraqi Embassy in Jordan, businessmen and Iraqi elite residing in Jordan.

During the meeting IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi spoke about the effectiveness of the Iraqi businessmen in Jordan, stressing that the number of Iraqi businessmen and investor exceeded 30 thousand since 1991 to the present date.

Dr. Saedi elaborated that the Iraqi – Jordanian agreement would be a great opportunity to support the private sector in both countries.

For his part, Dr. Kheir Abu Saeilik President of the Economy and Investment Committee in the Jordanian Parliament stressed that the Jordanian government stands hand in hand with the Iraqi government in the reconstruction processes, and that the best slogan for the reconstruction and building process is investment.

Dr. Abu Saeilik further added that the new lobbies in the world push us to connect with one another to form strong economic lobbies, which makes the Iraqi – Jordanian agreement important at this time.

MP Hassan Al-Kinani Head of the Economy and Investment Committee in the Iraqi Parliament expressed his thanks and appreciation to IBC and the Jordanian Parliamentarians for their exceptional reception and stressed that the Iraqi businessmen in Jordan are regarded as Iraqi ammunition needed by our country to contribute to the building and reconstruction process after the fall of international terrorism, since Iraqis fought on behalf of the whole world to eliminate the evil forces.

MP Falah Radi Al-Khafaji member of the Iraqi Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee said that the Iraqi – Jordanian relations are moving toward further strengthening in the economic and security fields, stressing that some Iraqis stand against the Iraqi – Jordanian agreement.                                                                                          He emphasized that we must stand together hand in hand since all Arab States are considered as a vital lung to Iraq.   For his part, Dr. Riyadh Al-Timimi member of the Economy and Investment Committee in the Iraqi Parliament that the Committee seeks to attract the Iraqi investors to return to Iraq and contribute to the building and reconstruction of Iraq.

Dr. Al-Timimi further said that the next step will be towards concluding agreements with other Arab countries. Also, the Economy and Investment Committee in the Iraqi Parliament called upon IBC members to attend meetings of the Committee in Baghdad to discuss some important laws that relate to Iraqi economy.

PM Ali Sadoun Al-Lami member of the Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee said that attendance of some IBC members the meetings of the Parliamentary Committee is very important since IBC enjoys specialized competencies whose contributions in discussing some laws will be very important and supportive of the draft laws that the Iraqi Parliament seeks to approve.

IBC members raised several important points such as : Mr. Saad Naji Deputy Chairman and Secretary General stressed the necessity of involving the Iraqi private sector in the formulation the economic laws and legislations that contribute to transition from totalitarian economy in Iraq to a free economy.

IBC Board member Mr. Turkey Al-Qaisi requested to facilitate granting entry visas to the Kingdom which would enhance cooperation between the private sectors in both countries.

Also, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz stressed the importance of forming special committees to follow up and implement the legal legislations in Iraq after adopting them by the Iraqi Parliament that would promote the Iraqi economy.

Economic Event: Participation of IBC Chairman and Members in the Activities of the Jordanian – Iraqi Parliamentarian Forum on Economic Integration

IBC Chairman and members took part in the activities of the Jordanian – Iraqi Parliamentary Forum held on Wednesday April 3rd, 2019 at the Intercontinental Hotel – Amman, organized by the Jordanian Investment and Economy Parliamentary Committee headed by the Speaker of Parliament HE Atif Al-Tarawneh, who opened the Forum with a welcoming speech, in which he stressed that the Parliament will support any step toward putting the Jordanian technical, administrative and economic capabilities in the hands of its Iraqi brethrens to support them to complete their march towards development and construction, stressing that Amman and Baghdad form one beating heart.
MP Hassan Al-Kinani Head of the Iraqi Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee stressed the deep relations binding the two brotherly countries especially the fraternal, humanitarian and geographic relations, pointing out the importance of the agreements concluded between the two countries to open wide cooperation horizons between the two countries in all fields toward an Iraqi – Jordanian economic integration.

During his participation in the Arab Economic Integration session, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi demanded adoption of multiple entry visas system for Iraqis travelling to the Kingdom, stressing that economic integration is still a term in our reality that we have not been able to enter in the executive reality so far and that the key integration obstacles is the inability of the Arab citizen to travel among the Arab States unless he obtains an entry visa, and the effect was also evident on the exchange of Arab – Arab goods, and we also did not benefit from the successful integrating experiences especially the European experience.

Dr. Saedi further added that the first significant migrations for Iraqis towards Jordan started in 1991 where Iraqis were able, through their presence in Jordan, to establish relations that had serious endeavors toward wide economic integration, pointing out that this positive phase between Jordan and Iraq must be invested, especially that that the agreement concluded between the two countries is on the verge of implementation as Jordan is considered Iraq’s only neighboring country that deals at a same distance with all Iraqi components.

This Parliamentarian Jordanian –Iraqi Forum held its activities under the slogan “Toward Broad Prospects for Economic Integration” with active participation of a number of ministers, the Jordanian Ambassador to Iraq, Advisor Mr. Khaled Al-Khaizran, representatives of the Economy and Investment Committee in the Iraqi and Jordanian Parliament, businessmen and specialists from both countries.
