Iraqi Business Council Chairman & Members Participate in the Economic Symposium on the Canadian – Jordanian – Iraqi Trade Relations

At the invitation extended by H.E the Canadian Ambassador to Jordan Ms. Donica Butte and the Economic Advisor of the Canadian Embassy to Jordan and Iraq Mr. Majeed Dallah, IBC Chairman and members took part in the Economic Symposium on the Canadian – Jordanian – Iraqi Trade Relations titled “Your Partners in the Growth of Your Business” which was held on Monday January 20th, 2020 at Amman – Sheraton Hotel.

The Symposium was opened with a welcome speech delivered by the Economic Advisor Mr. Majeed Dallah who provided an overview on the resume of the Canadian Ambassador to Jordan Ms. Donica Butte.

In turn, Ms. Butte thanked members of the Iraqi Business Council and the attendees on their compliance, stressing keenness of the Canadian government on developing trade cooperation with both Iraq and Jordan.

The Ambassador then elaborated on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between Jordan and Canada, which is the only Agreement that Canada concluded with an Arab State in the region, calling on the Jordanian and Iraqi businessmen and investors to benefit from the Customs facilities and exemptions granted under this Agreement.

This was followed a presentation on Canadian exports in the agricultural and livestock resources sectors, after which a number of issues were discussed that were of concern to exporters and importers including the logistic services provided by some companies such as shipping, transportation, clearance and cargo insurance.

During the Symposium the speakers affirmed their optimism in promoting and developing trade cooperation during 2020 and the important role of Jordan in that cooperation being the gateway to the Iraqi markets.

Iraqi businessman Mr. Raed Al-Rahmani called upon the Canadian and Jordanian companies to cooperate with Iraqi companies as Iraq is a promising market in the region, he also called upon the Canadian government to support Iraq during the coming phase and facilitate work of companies by granting credit facilities.

For his part, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi elaborated on the role of the Iraqi Business Council as a significant economic institution that embraces key Iraqi businessmen and investors, its  role in networking and establishing trade relations between its members and their business counterparts in other countries, stressing the need for the Canadian government to support Iraqi economy and the reconstruction of Iraq, expressing his optimism for stability of the conditions in Iraq during the coming phase after formation of the new government.

At the end of the meeting, the Economic Advisor Mr. Majeed Dallah pointed out to the initiative of the Canadian Embassy on the formation of a Committee of Canadian economic specialists and consultants to support and develop Iraqi products, which will be launched in the near future, after which visits and meetings will be organized with Iraqi companies who wish to export their products.

The Symposium was attended by IBC Chairman, members and a large crowd of Iraqi and Jordanian businessmen and investors.

Iraqi Business Council Delegation Offers Condolences to the Deputy Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman

The Iraqi Business Council delegation that included IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiez, Board members Mr. Fakhri Rishan, Dr. Haiman Al-Dabbagh, Mr. Ahmad Al-Amili and Mr. Aqeel Hadi and IBC CEO offered condolences to the Deputy of Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Jordan H.E. Counselor Faisal Bin Sultan Al-Hoseni on the passing away of the Leader of the Sultanate of Oman His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed at the headquarters of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Jordan.
This meeting was preceded by a visit paid yesterday by IBC Chairman Majid Saedi to the residence of the Omani Ambassador to offer condolences.
During the meeting held today, H.E the Ambassador welcomed IBC delegation, who lauded the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and his wisdom in dealing with the neighboring countries, the regional and international relations, stressing the historic ties existing between the Iraqi and Omani people.
During the meeting, the delegation also reviewed the important economic, cultural, humanitarian and academic programs, the achievements realized by the Iraqi Business Council and affiliated companies and the volume of Iraqi investments in Jordan.
In turn, H.E Counselor Faisal Bin Sultan stressed keenness of the Sultanate of Oman on promoting the economic relations with the Iraqi investors and businessmen and providing appropriate investment environment to attract their investments to Oman.
Investment opportunities available in Iraq and Oman were also discussed, as well as the issue of organizing meetings between the Omani trade missions visiting Jordan and IBC members Jordan, including visit of the delegation of the Omani Chamber of Trade and Industry to Jordan during the coming period.
At the end of the meeting, the Omani Counselor thanked IBC members for their visit to offer condolences, stressing the need for communication between the two parts and organizing future meetings to provide facilities to IBC members and Iraqi investors.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

The one who carried out the mission of founding is an elite of Iraqi businessmen of recognized competence and abilities. and since the Council’s inception in late 2006, members have worked towards efforts to support Iraqi investments in Jordan.
