Opening of Hana Sadiq’s Exhibition Titled “Fashion & Jewelry with Modern Touches” At The Iraqi Business council Hall

Under the patronage of the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Haider Al-Adhari and his wife Mrs. Maysam Al-Rubaiei, the exhibition of the international designer Hana Sadiq titled “Fashions & Jewelry with Modern Touches” was opened on Monday July 12th 2021 on the Iraqi Business Council Hall / 1st floor.

The Iraqi Ambassador and his wife, IBC’s Vice President & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji and IBC member Dr. Amila Naji toured the exhibition with designer Hana Sadiq to acquaint themselves with the exhibits, which reflected the Iraqi heritage with contemporary modernity and distinguished by the art of embroidery and writing poetic verses on the exhibited dresses with silk and reed threads and beads, in addition to the inclusion of conflicting colors in the same dress.

The exhibition also included unique jewelry made of silver and precious tones.

The event was attended by a number of the Iraqi Embassy staff, IBC guests, media and IBC Director General Mrs. Abeer Al-Naib and staff.

 

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The one who carried out the mission of founding is an elite of Iraqi businessmen of recognized competence and abilities. and since the Council’s inception in late 2006, members have worked towards efforts to support Iraqi investments in Jordan.

Meeting of the British Ambassador to Jordan Mrs. Bridget Brind with Iraqi Business council President Dr. Majid Sadi

The British Ambassador to Jordan Mrs. Bridget Brind met on Sunday July 11th 2021 with the President of the Iraqi business Council Dr. Majid Saedi during her visit to Dr. Sadi’s office.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Second Secretary for Regional Affairs Mr. Muddathar Mussawar and the British Embassy’s Head of the International Trade Department Mrs. Suha Patarseh in the presence of the Council’s Director General Mrs. Abeer Al-Naib.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Sadi welcomed the British Ambassador and the accompanying delegation of Embassy staff, then talked about the importance of economic integration and cooperation between Iraq, Jordan and Egypt in all fields because of its benefits for the peoples of the region, especially cooperation in the field of energy and the need to implement the Electrical Linkage Project between Jordan, Iraq and Egypt and establishing logistic cities to serve industry.

Dr. Sadi expressed his optimism about improving the economic situation in Iraq after the upcoming elections.

He further talked about the achievements of the Iraqi Business Council as a professional business organization that has endeavored since its establishment to provide facilities to the Council members of Iraqi businessmen and investors and overcome obstacles, the Council’s role as a link between international companies and the Iraqi private sector, and the support of the Council’s members to the Jordanian economy by investing in Jordan and Iraq, in addition to the Council’s initiatives to promote a number of important and vital projects between Iraq and Jordan, such as the Iraqi – Jordanian Pipeline Project, lauding the security stability enjoyed by Jordan, and its important geographical location for Iraq, which makes it an attractive area for Iraq investors and businessmen.

For her part, the British Ambassador Mrs. Bridget Brind congratulated Dr. Sadi on his recent assumption of the position of Head of Central England Development and extended her thanks for organizing the meeting and stressed her willingness to invite and encourage the British companies to participate in future projects in Iraq.  At the end of the meeting, Dr. Saedi presented the British Ambassador with the Council’s souvenir (the Sumerian Tree of Life).

Economic Event: IBC Chairman & Members Meet with the New American Commercial Attaché

The new American Commercial Attaché at the US Embassy in Amman Ms. Jane Pierre – Louis and the delegation from the US Embassy in Amman, which included commercial experts; Ms. Lubna Abdul Hadi, Ms. Susan Barbour and Mr. Marwan Madain met on Wednesday June 16th 2021 with the Chairman of the Iraqi Business Council Dr. Majid Saedi, IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, Board member Engineer Mekki Al-Faiz and IBC Director General at IBC head office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saedi welcomed the new Commercial Attaché and the accompanying delegation from the Embassy staff and talked about the achievements of the Council since its establishment in 2006 as a leading business organization, the facilities and services provided by the Iraqi Business Council to its members that include Iraqi investors and businessmen, the role of the Council in stimulating investment and overcoming obstacles facing investors in Jordan and Iraq.

He also reviewed the investment environment and the economic situation in Iraq, role of the private sector in advancing the economic realities despite the many difficulties that face the Iraqi companies operating in Iraq.

Dr. Saedi called on increasing cooperation between the Iraqi and American companies, increasing investment of the American companies in promising sectors in Iraq such as the energy and education sectors, infrastructure and housing projects and other sectors.

Dr. Saedi talked about the financing agreement provided by the Saudi Development Fund with the Iraqi banks to support export of Saudi products to Iraq, which comes within the allocations of the Saudi government to support reconstruction and development projects in Iraq that will contribute to strengthening the trade relations between the two countries and providing high-quality products.

For her part, Ms. Jane Pierre-Louis lauded the role of the Council in networking between its member companies and their counterparts in other countries including the United States and proposed holding regular trade fairs organized in partnership with the Iraqi Business Council to encourage the American companies to export their products to the Iraqi market, stressing that the coming period will witness greater cooperation and coordination with the Council and participation of the Council in all activities and fairs that would be held in the United States, and that the US Embassy will continue to approve the formal recommendation letters issued by the Council to its members to obtain entry visas to the United States.

Economic Event: IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Participates in the “United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit” of 2021

At the invitation of Mrs. Sanda Ojiambo, the CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, the largest community initiative for sustainable corporate development in the world, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr Saad Naji participated in the “United National Global Compact Leaders Summit” for 2021, which was held on June 15th & 16th 2021 in New York – United States of America and broadcasted via video technology.

During the Summit, the UN Global Compact Initiative celebrated the selection of ten business leaders who have demonstrated progress and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are doing exceptional work to advance these objectives through implementation of the ten principles of the UN Global compact in connection with human rights, environment, labor and combating corruption.

The nominations focused on professionals working on any level of the company taking part in the UN Global Compact, and the winners were selected from all continents.

The nominees were judged by a large panel that included representatives of the UN Global Compact Network of Experts, together with the former Sustainable Development Goals pioneers, representatives of academia and UN agencies, in addition to a number of sessions that discussed over two days the exacerbation of social and economic inequality, climate change, Covid-19 Pandemic and uncontrolled corruption.

It noteworthy that the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan was one of the first organizations that joined the UN Global Compact and worked on applying and implementing the ten principles of the Compact in all its procedures and adopted sustainable development and social responsibility.

Director of Innovation Programs of OXFAM International in Iraq Seeks Means of Cooperation with the Iraqi Business Council

The Director of Innovation Programs of Oxfam International – Iraq Office Mr. Basim Muhammad discussed means of cooperation with the Iraqi Business Council during his meeting that took place on Monday June 14th 2021 via Zoom app.

with IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC Director General in the presence of Innovation Lab Coordinator Ms. Duha Abdul Muniem.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saad Naji welcomed the representatives of Oxfam Organization, lauding the programs of the Innovation Lab launched by Oxfam Organization to support entrepreneurial projects and empower youth and women to find jobs in Iraq.

Mr. Naji also talked about IBC entrepreneurship incubator that targets the youth category and the capacity building programs launched by the Iraqi Business Council to support the youth category, referring to the pioneering experiences presented by business incubators in other countries such as Lebanon.

IBC Director General reviewed the Council’s activities and programs on the economic, cultural, academic and humanitarian levels.

For his part, Mr. Basim Muhammad extended his thanks and appreciation on organizing the meeting and presented and overview on the Innovation Lab founded by Oxfam and the successful projects that resulted from this incubator such as “Aco” and “Yella Erbil” Projects, which work on E-marketing of the products produced by the less fortunate categories in order to enable them economically.

Iraqi Business Council Participates as Community Partner & Supporter of Fine Arts In the largest Art & Cultural Gathering Held in Jordan

Among the activities of IBC Cultural Program, the Iraqi Business Council participated as a community partner and supporter of fine arts in the largest arts and cultural gathering held in Jordan organized by “Dar Al Funoun”.

The opening of this significant event took place on Saturday June 12th 2021 at “Swefieh Village” in the presence of HRH Wijdan Al-Hasimi, HRH Rajwa Al-Ali, IBC’s Vice President and Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, IBC member Dr. Amila Naji, IBC Director General Mrs. Abeer Al-Naib and staff amidst organized presence that took into account social distancing meeting the conditions of public safety.

The event was attended by a group of artists, media and those interested in fine arts.  Over 160 artists participated in this pioneering art event and a large number of young artists were involved in this event in order to empower them and support their creations.

IBC participated in this distinguished event with a number of its collections of artworks of Iraqi artists who had earlier held art exhibitions on IBC hall.

Economic Event: IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Participates in the Introductory Electronic Symposium for British Companies Specialized in the Water Sector

At the invitation of the Commercial Department of the British Embassy in Jordan, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji participated on Tuesday June 1st 2021 in the Introductory Electronic Symposium for five British companies specializing in the water sector, which are considered among the leading companies in this field.

During the Symposium, the latest innovations and technologies developed by British companies in the water sector were reviewed and discussed.

Representatives of the companies presented an overview on their companies and the projects implemented.

Economic Event: IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Participates in the Electronic Economic Symposium Held by the Global PWC

IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji participated on Tuesday May 25th 2021 in the Electronic Economic Symposium held by the global PWC for Financial Auditing.

During the meeting senior experts talked about the latest regional economic developments and the transformation in the form of the tax system in the Gulf region, especially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from the direct to indirect tax system.

The experts also talked about the changes that will occur in the form of the tax system in the world.

Iraqi Business Council Members Participation in the Special Discussion Session with the International Labor Organization (ILO)

Within the partnership between IBC and ILO in the “Transition from Informal to Formal Economy” Project in Iraq, IBC Deputy Chairman ad Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz, IBC member Engineer Turkey Al-Qaisi and IBC Director General participated with ILO in the special discussion session held on Wednesday April 7th 2021 via Zoom application.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saad Naji welcomed the participants and reviewed IBC programs in support of entrepreneurship including the “How to Start Your Business” Program launched by IBC in cooperation with the International Bank Group, which had a clear imprint in developing skills and human resources of the beneficiaries from this Program and directing them to building foundations of projects, in addition to IBC efforts to launch the pioneering incubator in Basra Governorate in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

However, the Program’s failure to obtain the necessary support from the Iraqi government, due to bureaucratic complications, prevented its implementation.

Dr. Saad Naji also reviewed IBC partnership in the professional training programs for Iraqi refugees in cooperation with the International Relief & Development Organization to enable them to obtain jobs, stressing the need to develop long-term strategy for transition from informal to formal economy in Iraq, and the need to develop appropriate social protection legislations and laws, which are considered an important tool to transform informal labor to formal labor in Iraq.

For his part, ILO Expert Mr. Muhammad Al-Maayteh welcomed IBC members and Iraqi businessmen, stressing that IBC represents the elite active intellect of Iraqi businessmen and investors in the labor market, and that the transition from informal to formal economy in Iraq is an ambitious project, but is not an easy issue to implement.

The International Labor Organization aspires to lay the foundation for this Project, which would provide protection for workers and employers, pointing out to the desire and response of the Iraqi government to implement this Project.

Mr. Al-Maayteh also emphasized the strategic partnership with IBC in this Project within the national framework that will be launched in the near future, which will include professional unions and associations, in addition to the legislative bodies in Iraq.

During the session, Engineer Mekki Al-Faiz discussed the business environment in Iraq, stressing on non existence of unions or professional institutions that protect employers and oblige workers with productivity and work hours.

He also talked about hidden unemployment that is no longer limited to the public sector, but shifted also to the private sector, which led to the workers’ lack of commitment to fulfill their obligations.

Engineer Turkey Al-Qaisi also emphasized the absence of government support for the Iraqi youth in the field of employment, training and human resources development in a number of vital sectors that would build competencies and reduce unemployment in Iraq.

It is noteworthy that ILO works on the formation of a national team to develop a permanent strategy to shift from informal economy (informal economy includes all works that the individual practices which are not subject to any of the social protection laws) to formal economy according to the recommendation of ILO No. (204) that calls upon all member countries to design coherent and integrated strategies to facilitate the transition from informal to formal economy.

A number of United Nations agencies, representatives of the Iraqi government and civil society organizations will participate in developing the strategy.

Economic Event: Participation of IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General in a Dialogue By Prince Michael of Liechtenstein on the “Economy after the Pandemic”

At a personal invitation by the Leading Summit of the Alternative Investment Management (AIM), the Deputy Chairman & Secretary General of the Iraqi Business Council Dr. Saad Naji participated in an interview with His Highness Prince Michael of Liechtenstein, who is the founder of the “Brainstorming Centre” – the European Centre for the Austrian Economic Foundation.

The dialogue was managed by the well-known Economic Analyst Mr. David Moore.

During the meeting, His Highness the Prince of Liechtenstein spoke about a number of topics amongst which; the potential future trends of the public and private financial markets, current levels of government spending under inflation of the public sector debts and the repercussions of the inflation resulting from companies’ profits and consumption, along with some potential social and political consequences of the current economic events.

His Highness the Prince of Liechtenstein finds that the world Central Banks will find themselves forced to create a stock of digital currencies that they would deal with just as they deal with their gold reserve stock.

He also finds that the major companies will eventually have to deal with digital currencies in terms of investment and trading.

His Highness also finds that economy recovery after the Pandemic will last for many years and that the government financial support for companies will destabilize liberal democracy due to the potential impacts on the recipients of support.

His Highness the Princes also finds that free trade is far more important than globalization, with a clear difference between the two.

In response to Dr. Saad Naji’s question as to whether government support to various sectors in the third world countries, due to the Pandemic, will lead to more corruption and more centralization of governments.

His Highness the Prince responded that the political form expected in all parts of the world will encounter a form, or forms, of negative changes worthy of in-depth study, that change will be greater in the countries whose economy has been severely affected, and that the Central Banks Authorities will be more influential in the countries’ financial, monetary and political policies.
