Economic Event: IBC Chairman & Members Meet with the New American Commercial Attaché
The new American Commercial Attaché at the US Embassy in Amman Ms. Jane Pierre – Louis and the delegation from the US Embassy in Amman, which included commercial experts; Ms. Lubna Abdul Hadi, Ms. Susan Barbour and Mr. Marwan Madain met on Wednesday June 16th 2021 with the Chairman of the Iraqi Business Council Dr. Majid Saedi, IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, Board member Engineer Mekki Al-Faiz and IBC Director General at IBC head office.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saedi welcomed the new Commercial Attaché and the accompanying delegation from the Embassy staff and talked about the achievements of the Council since its establishment in 2006 as a leading business organization, the facilities and services provided by the Iraqi Business Council to its members that include Iraqi investors and businessmen, the role of the Council in stimulating investment and overcoming obstacles facing investors in Jordan and Iraq.
He also reviewed the investment environment and the economic situation in Iraq, role of the private sector in advancing the economic realities despite the many difficulties that face the Iraqi companies operating in Iraq.
Dr. Saedi called on increasing cooperation between the Iraqi and American companies, increasing investment of the American companies in promising sectors in Iraq such as the energy and education sectors, infrastructure and housing projects and other sectors.
Dr. Saedi talked about the financing agreement provided by the Saudi Development Fund with the Iraqi banks to support export of Saudi products to Iraq, which comes within the allocations of the Saudi government to support reconstruction and development projects in Iraq that will contribute to strengthening the trade relations between the two countries and providing high-quality products.
For her part, Ms. Jane Pierre-Louis lauded the role of the Council in networking between its member companies and their counterparts in other countries including the United States and proposed holding regular trade fairs organized in partnership with the Iraqi Business Council to encourage the American companies to export their products to the Iraqi market, stressing that the coming period will witness greater cooperation and coordination with the Council and participation of the Council in all activities and fairs that would be held in the United States, and that the US Embassy will continue to approve the formal recommendation letters issued by the Council to its members to obtain entry visas to the United States.
