Opening of Personal Exhibition of Artist Mehdi Al-Shammari Titled “Women & Cities” At The Iraqi Business council Hall
As part of the activities of IBC Cultural Program “Ibdaa”, the personal exhibition of artist Mehdi Al-Shammari was opened on Saturday August 24th 2019 on IBC Hall under the patronage of HRH Princess Najlaa Bint Assim with the attendance of the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Mrs. Safiya Al-Siheil and members of the diplomatic mission at the Embassy, in addition to a large crowd of IBC members, members of the Iraqi community and Jordanian artists, academics, businessmen and journalists.
During the opening ceremony, HRH Princess Najlaa Bint Assim toured the exhibition with IBC Chairman and Board members to see the (26) exhibited paintings, through which the artist wanted to raise questions and objections on the overall experience of the Arab individual in general, and the Iraqi individual in particular, emphasizing the universal identity instead of the secondary and divided identities that are part of the concerns of the expatriate artist.
On the other hand, the exhibition attempted to present a non-stereotype form of patterns and ideas which the artist explored about women and cities in his paintings, where he linked cities to a beautiful mare, a raging bull or a mystic dancer, making the forms and shapes harmonious.. with glowing and confusing backgrounds containing the point that is the beginning of everything and the interpretive character of our minds that gives striking abstract beauty.
The artist also wanted to show that woman gives a taste and continuity to life unconditionally, and as she represents the most vulnerable in our culture, therefore, the artist wanted to extend his thanks and admiration through his paintings to every struggling woman whether a month, a sister, a daughter or a wife.
