In celebration of the World Arabic Language Day, “Ibdaa” Cultural Program of the Iraqi Business Council organized on Tuesday evening December 17th, 2025, a cultural lecture entitled “Linguistic Politeness Strategies”.  IBC hosted His Excellency the Cultural Consular of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraqi in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Dr. Kheir Al-Din Al-Amin.  The cultural dialogue with Dr. Al-Amin was moderated by IBC Vice Chairman & Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, exploring the lecture’s themes and its intellectual and linguistic dimensions.  This interactive discussion enriched the lecture and contributed to a deeper understanding of its contents.

Dr. Al-Amin addressed the concept of “linguistic politeness” and its pragmatic dimensions and the Arabic discourse, highlighting its role in strengthening human communication and building the civilized discourse, preserving the beauty of the Arabic language and its capacity for eloquent expression in various social and cultural contexts.  He also presented a comparison between the Arabic and French languages in terms of their polite and courteous language and the cultural and civilizational connotations they reflect, in addition to pointing out the large number of French words of Arabic origin.

The lecture witnessed remarkable interaction by the audience, which included academics, researchers, intellectuals and media figures, at the end of which, the door to discussion was opened for interventions and questions that enriched the topic.  The event was held on Ibdaa Cultural Centre Hall as part of a series of activities supporting the cultural scene and enhancing the presence of the Arabic language as a pillar of identity and belonging.  At the end, Dr. Kheir Al-Din Al-Amin was honored with “Ibdaa Shield for Culture” in recognition of his participation and contributions.
