The Deputy Chairman & Secretary General of the Iraqi Business Council, Dr. Saad Naji, and IBC members; Mr. Aqeel Al-Hadi and Mr. Ali Shanshal, in addition to IBC Director General met on Tuesday March 26th, 2025, at IBC offices with the Commercial Attaché of the Embassy of Canada in Baghdad, Mr. Ali Aziz.
During the meeting, means of enhancing trade relations between Iraq and Canada were discussed. Dr. Naji reviewed possible areas of cooperation, especially in the energy, agriculture and infrastructure sectors. He also discussed the requirements for Canadian companies operating in the Iraqi market and reviewed a number of promising investment opportunities and mechanisms of optimal cooperation between IBC companies and their Canadian counterparts to strengthen partnership opportunities and economic integration.
For his part, Mr. Ali Aziz praised the role of the Iraqi Business Council in supporting bilateral economic relations, commending the constructive and ongoing cooperation and the distinguished relationship existing between the Council and the Canadian Embassy in Baghdad and Amman. He expressed readiness of the Canadian Embassy to provide the Council with required information relating to investment opportunities in Canada, Canadian government programs designed to attract investors and finance projects, in addition to organizing annual economic fairs to contribute to expanding cooperation horizons between the two counties.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged thanks on organizing the constructive meeting, affirming their keenness on continuing communication and developing economic relations between Iraq and Canada.
