Opening of “Jadeedb Al-Janoub” (The South’s Barrenness) Exhibition By Iraqi Artist Muhannad Al-Sudani As Part of the Activities of “Ibdaa” Cultural Program

The photography exhibition titled “Jadeeb Al-Janoub” (The South’s Barrenness) by the creative Iraqi artist Muhannad Hassan Al-Sudani was opened yesterday; Sunday April 13th 2025 on the Iraqi Business Council’s hall as part of the activities of IBC “Ibdaa” Cultural Program with the presence of IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, and IBC members; Mr. Muhammad Shanshal, Mrs. Basma Bahaa Shukri, a large number of prominent cultural, academic and media figures and TV satellite channels, in addition to IBC CEO and staff.

The opening ceremony included a speech by the artist / photographer Mr. Muhannad Al-Sudani, in which he presented an overview on his experience in preparing this exhibition, which highlights the environmental transformations in southern Iraq, particularly the drying up of the marshes and the social and humanitarian changes caused by the drought. 

The artist explained that his exhibition carries both a humanitarian and environmental messages that aim at documenting reality and conveying the voice of southern Iraq, which faces significant challenges due to climate change and environmental neglect. The artist, through his lens, calls for awareness, preservation of natural heritage and hope for the restoration of life to those areas.

The exhibition received remarkable interaction from the audience due to its touching and realistic images that embodied the decline of natural beauty in the marshlands, transforming them into scenes of drought, without losing hope for life returning to the marshes.

It is worth mentioning that artist Muhannad Al-Sudani has won more than 26 local and international photography awards and participated in several international festivals and is considered one of the prominent young artistic voices in the in the contemporary Iraqi visual scene.
